Passenger Rail and Meat Processing.....real game changers for Southern Grampians

Dear Editor,

Two strategic projects I have lobbied successfully for and which will be absolute game changers are returning Passenger Rail and the re establishment of a Meat Processing Plant in Hamilton.

This is why I put my hand up for elected office. To get things done which develop community services and jobs, without negatively impacting on our heritage and environment.

Planning for the return of Passenger Rail is now in the feasibility study stage. Eight Shires from Western  Victoria combining to fund  a strategic study, in partnership with the State Government Departments. This is part of the vision I have promoted far and wide, even calling the route the Great Grampians Rail Ride as an alternative experience to the Great Ocean Road.  Rail networks bringing us closer to reconnecting to the regional passenger rail network that the majority of Victorians are already enjoying. Buses will still be important connecter services complimenting passenger rail as they do elsewhere.

Gaining support from my fellow councillors for my motion to develop a strategy to attract red Meat Processing to Hamilton during this term is something I am very proud of.  Resulting in business leaders establishing a meat processing company,  identifying suitable land, developing a comprehensive plant design, gaining a planning permit, purchasing the property, now in investment stage. We will be value adding to one of our major local products from the livestock industry and the local employment and marketing opportunities with be significant.

I am proud of what I have achieved, with the support of council officers and fellow councillors.
These are the reasons I continue to be energetic and excited about the future potential  building  on the legacies of previous generations of Southern Grampians and City of Hamilton community members.
